My work is rooted in the exploration of the physical body as a border, the space it holds, and what pushes against it. Flesh is stretched and molded in a created textured space, as an intimate exploration of the identifiable and symbolic. I use the representation of the figure as both a placeholder for the physical and intangible movements within space. This dichotomy of uncertainty, the shift of place and belonging within the composition, creates a careful balance between the layering of imagery and abstraction. Imagined spaces combine the natural and the constructed to explore the internal navigation between ideology and the unknown. The exploration of the natural is expressed through the push and pull of oil paint's fluidity, resulting in marks that are both controlled and intuitive. The tension of an embrace, a desire to flee, the otherworldly, and the painfully human experiences are central elements within the construction of each piece. It is this fragile line that defines my practice, the layering of pigments to depict the ever-changing threshold of opaque and porous boundary between self and world.
